The waste management company LTD "Getliņi Eko" has collected this season’s the first orange tomato crop.
The buyers will be able to purchase the tomatoes in stores already from 16 December, in the retail chains "Sky", "Rimi", "Prisma", "Maxima", as well as “Stockmann" and "Mc2".
Getlini tomato season will last until the end of August 2014. Therefore an average amount of crop in the greenhouse will comprise 4.5 tons per week, but in the end of spring 2014 the crop will be supplemented by the tomato crop of the second greenhouse of "Getliņi Eko", which is twice as large as the first one.
According to the project the total area of a new greenhouse block will comprise 11 448, the biggest part of which or 10 512 square meters will be taken by plants. Immediately after ending of construction works the tomatoes will be panted in the new greenhouse. During its first not full season along with large-fruited orange tomatoes also raspberry or rose large-fruited tomato breed, orange cluster tomatoes and special tomato breed will be planted.
Thus “Getliņi Eko" will proceed with the previously started work in the current greenhouse and will nurse large-fruited orange tomatoes, which is less common breed in Latvia. Almost 2.5 million lats have been invested into construction of the second greenhouse of "Getliņu Eko".
